As a stay at home Mom for over a decade I frequently thought about when my boys would be old enough for me to begin a career. For so long this dream of having a career in the beauty industry, seemed just that. My oldest son has multiple disabilities and with my youngest still having several years of school left, it sometimes felt impossible.
By the end of 2018 I had put the gears in motion, working two jobs, enrolling in school and saving every cent to make my career as a cosmetologist a reality. A year later I had graduated from school and began renting a chair at a small salon, working towards becoming a partner in ownership. A great clientele base and somewhat flexible hours, so I could still fit in lots of “Mom Stuff”.
Like so many, my life made big changes in 2020, but it is all about the silver lining, right?
The clouds were dark, closing of my salon and the loss of my career led me to not only look inward for answers. I can remember sitting on my sofa watching the news, while showing my husband the digital CAT art I had made that day and saying “ I wish I could do this for a living”. And like so many in 2020, I began to evaluate my career, and my family's needs. Navigating the challenges of not just my life being turned over, but my children's, I slowly began to run Nails Truly Co from my husband's desktop.
From making press-ons to selling decals, Nails Truly Co is the dream business I have always wanted! My two boys help as much and as often as they can! Together we have built a foundation for what would someday be our family business.
Now I run Nails Truly Co on a day to day basis, while my husband, boys and often friends help out. I never realized how much owning my own business meant to me, my only wish is that I would have jumped in sooner.
